Following steps are no-fluff, action filled steps...Just follow without rationalizing and very soon you'll be rewarded with more and more clients.

Stage 1: Strategic preparation

  • Best place to expand your contacts is at events. Carry along with you some neat looking professional visiting cards.
  • Just glance through RSVP list, select some(3 to 4) appropriate persons whom you think can help you out in giving business or referrals. Say for example you are an pet photographer, then people owning pet shops or related to pet industry would be the one's to target.
  • Make a small research about person, be prepared in advance about what to speak and how to grow rapport with that person.
Tips: Set goals before attending events, like meeting at least 3 persons and establishing relationship (will be explained further).

Stage 2: Follow up

  • Try to stay in touch with people whom you've contacted and built rapport with. May be by sending facebook requests, following them on twitter, linkedin.
Warning!-Never ever be too salesy in your talk, No one likes sales people, show genuine interest in knowing more people and building contacts. Your conversation should always be casual, this is one point which most people miss out while networking.

Step 3: Time to get business

  • Make note of people whom you have contacted, share some of your work and keep in touch with them. I bet you, if you have followed my advice exactly as i've told, then next time they or their friends are looking for a photographer, you will be the first one coming to their mind.
  • Be creative in how you can share your work. For example, one of my friend provided 30x40 wall potrait of a married couple in a marriage bureau, people visiting the bureau enquired about this wonderful art and asked staff  for more details, end result?....He got 7 new clients with next two weeks.
